Kids Museum Passport that can be rented at the Chicago Public Library

I think many teachers are studying abroad with their families. Chicago has a variety of museums with lots of things that kids will love, but the admission fee is reasonable. However, if you live in Chicago, you can rent a Kids Museum Passport at the Chicago Public Library! !! With a passport, up to 4 children (up to 2 adults) can enter the museum for free (with exceptions) if they have children under the age of 18. There is a passport for each facility, and you can borrow up to one passport per person for up to a week.

Below is a link that lists the facilities where you can use your passport.

To rent a passport, you need to make a library card for the Chicago Public Library ( How do I get a library card? ).

Specifically, go to the library (the closest library to Northwestern University is Water Works. See below for a map), fill out the application form and provide an ID card with your Chicago address (driver's license? Present the State ID). If not, present your passport and proof of Chicago residence (mail, utility bills, insurance receipts, etc.) together (see text below).

If you don't have a photo ID with your name and current Chicago address, please bring two pieces of your current ID. One of these must include your name and Chicago address, and one must include your name and photo. Accepted forms of ID include:

  • Personal check

  • Current telephone, gas, electric or cable bill, or other service provider billing statements

  • Mail postmarked within 30 days

  • Voter registration card

How to use your passport: Basically, you do not need to make a reservation online, and you can enter by presenting your passport directly at the museum reception (you may be asked for a zip code). With the exception of Shedd Aquarium, you need to book from the link below.

The number of passports is limited. You can check it directly at the library (in the case of Water Works, the wall on the left back of the reception shows whether it can be rented), but you can also check it online. Below are links to typical museum passports, which will take you to the website for an overview of each passport.

On the linked page, in the upper right corner, there is a link (Availability by location) to find out at which library your passport is currently rented.

For example, in the case below, Water Works says that you can rent two passports.

In the case below, Water Works indicates that both passports are on loan and will be returned on February 5th and 7th. I think it's a good idea to check the expected return date and check again if you can rent it around it.
